You're in Trouble [NOT because you forgot to take the chicken out of the freezer]
How many times have we been in trouble? Surely, zillion of
times but surely, it's not because you forgot to take the chicken out of the freezer [to thaw it]. BTW, this piece has got nothing to do with our cooking chores and chickens. Instead, we'll take for breakfast those politicos who have chickened out from their WORD of HONOR.
Instead, what’s lost in the midst of today’s turbulence and chaos is ‘WHO’ spelled W-O-R-D O-F H-O-N-O-R. Gone are those Camelot days when men who didn’t honor their word, they became outcasts. These days, you break your word, you belong to the mainstream, you become smart and savvy. Gone are the days when the politicos at the ‘Halls of Congress’ were revered and respected. Most members of congress have stooped so low as low as their stinking sewerage. Matters of state? All it takes is either you can initiate BIG JOKES. And if you’re at the receiving end, ensure you are proficient enough to LOL! And LOL some moH, lah.
Hey, shouldn’t we initiate a distress call? Cling to a helpline? And redeem whatever is left of us as tattered as we are? But if politicos will question you for making a mountain out of a molehill, retort and scream back, ‘when it has been wrong, it will always be wrong’. No amount of innuendoes and half-truths can extricate us from the foxhole we ourselves did dug.
Over in India, the word of honor is as solemn as the vows they perform during their traditional marriage ceremony. Swing over to the west, those intrinsic values should never change in form and in content. Why the hell we need to throw out in the window those ageless values of honor? Why can’t we admit it if it has become our achilles heel?
Not to threaten BUT the ashes and charred debris from one’s fault will always haunt you unless you make amends. And when they never amend their way, instead, they choose to ‘doubledown on their stance’, placing themselves in a position of strength as protagonists go for each other’s throat and harangue no end with the strongest words ever simmering as hot as the flowing lava from Mount Vesuvius.
Evolution? Indeed, a hell lot of things have evolved over time but what's disheartening is that even the Webster Dictionary has been supplanted by disgusting turn of events within our realm. Heard of 'PALABRA DE HONOR'? Not with our millennials I guess. And not even with the boomers now cloaked as annointed millennials themselves.
For now, let’s seek refuge from the words of John Di Lemme, a respected business strategist: ‘You must honor your word and stand up for something or else you are going to get run over by everything.’ That is not a thread but that’s the truism we need to live with.
