EQ versus IQ
For the longest time, we have been debating on IQ versus EQ. Unfortunately, the prevailing general misconception is that IQ wins hands-down. Nope, unfortunately. Truth is, neither IQ nor EQ wins it on its own. This is not an 'either or' thing because this is an 'and' thing.
For obvious reasons, we won't define what IQ is, that's a no-brainer but to be on the same page, let's briefly touch on EQ. Simply put, EQ [according to mr google] is the ability to identify, evaluate, control and express emotions. Wanna ask when do you need tons and tons of EQ ? You need more than an ounce of it during these trying times of the pandemic when families and couples are 'locked down' and 'locked in' in their homes, in fact for the past five months and God knows, for the next five months [at the very least, that's my fearless forecast].
Courtesy from dreamstime.com, relating the above table to what we are IN now, what matters most these days is "GETTING THROUGH LIFE", how to live on a day-by-day basis, living life with the least stress, least friction, least snags.
Who wants to experience a seismic rupture of relationships? No one I guess.
If admittedly one's IQ is not even somewhere the median, hell, to borrow an idiomatic expression, 'a swallow does hardly make a spring'. Simply put, it doesn't make one inutile or useless at all. Grapple down with your EQ and if you perceive your EQ to be at a low level, do a 'look up' on the above table because it says that EQ 'can be learned'. Knowing when to express emotions and when to contain it, that's all that matters.
In life, you gotta be engaged. You need to interact. You need to co-exist. As John Donne says, 'no man is an island. Taking a step farther, you need both EQ + IQ to succeed on things you concretely target to achieve. Take away either of those, you're doomed to fail.
To appetize your breakfast this morning alongside that aroma of your brewed coffee, please do embed this equation within yourself, IQ + EQ = SUCCESS.
