'Tanking' in Life

'Tanking' in Life

‘Tanking’ is NOT a typo. It is a NBA jargon which is defined as the ‘art of creating a purposely bad team with the intention of losing games to gain high draft picks’. Draft picks are the incoming NBA rookies whose competitive credentials from their playing days either in NCAA’s college-based tournament conferences or in other junior leagues like the existing ‘G League’ Thereafter, those incoming NBA rookies are ranked in preparation for the NBA Draft Days when all NBA teams will exercise their right to pick the NBA rookies based on their Win-Loss rankings with the team with the most losses claiming the rights for the #1 Rookie Draft Pick and the second, third, till the last ranked teamclaoims the last draft pick based on the teams Win-Loss record.

Fortunately, not all NBA teams take that ‘tanking’ path. One of those teams who will never go the ‘tanking’ path is the popular Miami Heats coached by Fil-American Erik Spoelstra. For the Miami Heat owners, the respected philnatrophies, the Arisons, there is no reason to give up games and give up their hopes even if losses will keep piling up. Up to the game’s final buzzer, you would witness the Miami Heat team playing like there’s no tomorrow.

How about you ? Have you gone the ‘tanking’ path in the past ? Have you given up at some point ? Or where you in the verge of giving up when all the cards are stacked against you ? Lest you forget, regardless whether if it's your career at stake or it's your family, either way, the situation you are in now will ultimately test your mettle in life.

You might ask, when should you give up on life ? Unfortunately, there’s only one answer for this and that is, never give up in life. Why would you ? Whatever challenge you face in life, there is no ‘escape clause’ for you, no ‘exit clause’ at all.

Here are TEN REASONS why you should never GIVE UP:

  • WHY GIVE UP? The problem you’ve got in your hand is either for you, your career or for your family.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The obstacle you need to overcome means you are past the starting block.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The challenge you’re now facing will lead you to progress in your journey.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The crisis you need to overcome is your acid test before you succeed.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The situation you are stalled just needs your all-out efforts & focus.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The difficulty you are now struggling just needs you to double-up.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The snag you are embroiled will lead you to the next fruit to bear.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The complication you have now means that you are progressing.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The quandary you are now in is your ‘pit stop’ in your life.

  • WHY GIVE UP? The mess you got now will lead you closer to your goals.

To quote Bryant McGill, ‘the number one skills in life is not giving up’. Simply put, giving up in life is never an option. Neither is it something to ponder or consider because once you reach your crossroads, you have to look back and recall the efforts you have exerted to date and to validate things, you can ask yourself, haven’t you progressed by now because you are not at the starting block anymore.

Here’s a booster for us all, to quote: ‘You are allowed to scream, you are allowed to cry BUT, do not give up on life’ [because that’s your life, c’mon].

Borrowing a chinese proverb: ‘Failure is not falling down but refusing to get up’.
